The Greek Minister of Defense has commented on the statements made by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

During a press conference, the Greek Minister stated that he considers the statements made by Rama to be a provocation.

“It is true that Mr. Rama is provocative in regards to his recent statements. So are the movements that are being made around the Greek minority in Northern Epirus.

“But, I think that Rama has in front of him a majority of people who have been migrants in Greece and are still related to Greece, people who are asking for Greek citizenship.

“I think that he will get an answer from the Albanian people regarding the extremist behavior towards our people in Northern Epirus and particularly in Himara Region ” – said the Greek Minister of Defense.

He added that the statements are considered as provocative by Athens, and can have an impact on Albania’s isolation.

It was observed by Athens that the recent statements by the Prime Minister do not align with official statements from Albania made in international forums.

“I think that the efforts of extremist elements to create problems with the Greek minority will result in the isolation of Albania.

“I want to say that when we meet abroad, the Albanian officials are really careful with their statements.
“Statements made to NATO are not the same as the public statements Mr. Rama issues” – declared the Greek Minister.

After emphasizing that last month Greece sent firefighting helicopters to come to the aid of Albania, the Greek Minister of Defense said that there is no reason for Prime Minister Rama to continue with the provocative rhetoric.
